Crate Digging. What does it mean to me.

By: Distrakt

Today I’m going to let you know what crate digging means to me. I find records in all kinds of spots like thrift shops, garage sales and record shops around the world. I have some partners in Tokyo & Brazil with record shops and they hit me with some mean joints from time to time. I’ve been digging for records for years. I’m talking 1986, 1987… way back. There’s nothing like finding that one record that makes your toes curl up in your shoes and you run back to the spot and produce a beat that’ll make heads bug out. They’ll be asking, ‘where did you find that joint?’ Depending who it is, I might say what it is, but with some cats I’ll be like, “you’ll find it man, just keep diggin.” I know some heads that will go find them joints when you tell ‘em what it is, then they’ll go home and use the same thing and try to out freak it and put it out before you. I’m a beat maker… I have to dig in the crates. It’s like going to the grocery store and stocking up on nothing but good food.

Got a new song on myspace called Dirty Record. It’s for crate diggers and beat specialist. Go check it at http://www.myspace.com/distrakt
