YRP: What is the meaning of the name Distrakt?
Distrakt: Draw Individual Sense To Righteous Active Knowledgeable Thoughts.
YRP: What’s the name of the album?
Distrakt: Distraktions. It’s due out late this year. I also got a 12-inch EP in stores now called Fish Grease.
YRP: What MCs inspired you?
Distrakt: Rakim, KRS-One, Guru, MF Doom, Ultramagnetic MCs,
Organized Konfusion.
YRP: What producers inspired you?
Distrakt: Showbiz, Buckwild, Diamond D, Large Professor, DJ Premier, Pete Rock, Madlib, Pharoahe Monch.
YRP: How much of your own experiences do you lend to your writing?
Distrakt: It goes both ways. Some of it is personal and some of it is what I see. People getting killed, friends getting killed, money being short. Having a hustle, heads getting locked up, friends having jobs and then losing them, friends having and losing businesses. My subject matter reflects all types of things that keep a man off balance. I feel the vibe off different people and situations from within my circle.This record is for the survivalist.
YRP: Why should people who haven’t heard your music check you out?
Distrakt: Its little more soulful. Its not tampered with by the average what you hear on the radio 24 hours a day. The music and ideas I’m splashing are original. It’s something that hasn’t been heard before. I think its just some raw hip hop. I like to give people a new look at things, you know.
YRP: What’s your goal as an artist?
Distrakt: My goal as an artist is to spread positive vibes through my music and performances, as well as inspire people to be the best they can be. The songs I write are about love, hate, social issues, struggle, maintaining and enjoying life to the fullest.
YRP: Is there anything else?
Distrakt: I like to say to everybody thank you for the support and as we move. Channels.
